Big first inning earns Columbian the win

WILLARD – A five-run first inning started things off as the Tornadoes ripped through Willard 10-6 Tuesday afternoon.

Christian Magill and Russ Yeast each had two RBIs while Nate Hoyda, Jack Burkes, Jeffrey Crawford, Tyler Gillig and Austin Burgess recorded one RBI each. Magill, Burkes and Crawford all doubled. Aaron Sostaric along with Crawford, Gillig and Magill led the Tornadoes with two runs each.

Magill took the mound for Columbian, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out five over six innings.

Dominic Provenzale had a home run and two RBIs for Willard while Mitchell Cofer led the Crimson Flashes with two runs.

Cofer handled the majority of the pitching duties giving up three hits and one run while striking out one batter over four innings. Adam Studel gave up seven hits and seven runs while having two strikeouts over two innings.

Arcadia knocks off St. Wendelin

ARCADIA – Arcadia used a five-run third inning to distance itself from St. Wendelin, and cruised from there to top the Mohawks, 9-2.

Acadia’s Sawyer Kieffer had two hits and two runs scored, while Garret Enders scored twice and had a run scored.

St. Wendelin (2-22) was led by Donovan Scudder, who had two hits and an RBI. Cyle Smith had two hits and an RBI.

Lakota outslugs NR

KANSAS – Lakota scored 10 runs over the first two innings, got a triple and an RBI from Jack Raymond, and out-slugged New Riegel, 13-6.

Michael Kirian hit a solo homer for New Riegel (11-10, 4-4 Midland Athletic League), while Alex Theis drove in two runs.

Josh Mason scored three times for Lakota (11-10, 5-4), while Nick Watts drove in two runs.
