Dragon softball swipes two from Ohio Valley
The weather was cold but the bats were hot for Tiffin’s softball team Wednesday afternoon as the Dragons took two from Ohio Valley University, 4-2 and 14-0, at Paradiso Fields.
Taylor Spang (8-4) picked up the first game victory, yielding just three hits to the Fighting Scots (12-23).
The Dragons (20-13) broke a 1-all tie in the fourth with three runs. Kristin Prokopakis drove in two with a pair of hits and Tamara Link drove in another. Payton Denman had two hits in the win.
In the night cap, the Dragons scored four each in the first two innings and pushed it into run-rule territory in the fourth with another five runs.
Cassandra Brown led the attack with a two-RBI triple while teammates Jena King and Madison Yanek both doubled and drove in a pair. Spang had two hits and a RBI and Kaitlin Gruenewald and Link both doubled, with the former plating a run.
Yanek picked up the shutout with five innings of four-hit ball.
Ashland pummels TU
ASHLAND – By the time the Tiffin University bats came around, it was too late for the baseball team as Ashland blitzed the Dragons, 10-4, Wednesday.
The Eagles (18-13) scored five in the sixth inning and after Tiffin plated one in the top of the seventh, Ashland scored another four in the bottom half.
Dan Sexton (2-3) took the loss for the Dragons (9-26) giving up six hits and four runs in five and a third innings.
Nick Calandra and Jordan Widman both had a pair of hits in the loss.
Heidelberg drilled by JCU
SHAKER HEIGHTS – There was one lone bright spot Wednesday in Heidelberg’s women’s tennis match with John Carroll.
The Blue Streaks popped the Student Princes, 8-1.
The ‘Berg’s Sofey Fugate and Katie Stranahan won at No. 1 doubles, 8-5, over Catherine Engel and Anna Stein.
