Prep Swimming Roundup: Senior trio shines for Calvert
Emma Brodman, Carmella Fabrizio and Amanda Traxler capped senior day by helping Calvert take the 400 free relay and claim four team victories Saturday.
Junior Amanda Burks joined the senior trio to give the Senecas the win in the 400 free (5:09.23).
Calvert’s girls won every event in which they had an entry, beating Fostoria 55-18, Willard 53-38, St. Wendelin 52-22 and Fremont St. Joe 41-29.
Corinne Harris, Brodman, Katie Tiell and Traxler took the 200 medley relay (2:16.4), and Harris, Brodman, Traxler and Tiell claimed the 200 free relay (1:57.29).
Tiell added wins in the 200 free (2:11.78) and 50 free (27.55), Harris captured the 200 IM (2:23.11) and 100 free (57.64), Fabrizio won the 100 fly (1:32.13) and 500 free (7:01.6), and Traxler took the 100 back (1:25.73).
In the boys meet, Calvert’s Anthony Traxler finished second in the 50 free (25.31) and 100 free (59.1).
Calvert lost the boys meets 27-8 to Fostoria, 35-7 to St. Joe and 20-7 to Willard, and tied St. Wendelin 8-8.
Howard gains Ontario crown
ONTARIO – Columbian’s Natalie Howard won one race and took third in another to lead local individual efforts, while TC’s boys finished sixth overall on the strength of Chris Gates’ runner-up effort in an event Saturday at the Ontario Invitational.
Howard captured the girls 100 fly in 1:04.58 and added a third in the 100 back (1:06.15) go guide the Tornadoes to 12th in the team standings with 28 points.
Upper Sandusky finished 15th (9) in the girls meet. Mallory Weininger finished seventh in the 200 free (2:20.55).
In the boys meet, Gates swam second in the 100 back (58.81), added a fifth in the 200 free (1:57.09) and helped TC take third in both the 200 free relay (1:37.72) and 400 free (3:41.29). The effort helped the Tornadoes score 95 points to finish sixth overall.
Justin Schwartz, Isaac Lewis and Braden Kuhn joined Gates in both relays.
Upper Sandusky’s boys came in 11th (24), led by Evan Scheck’s sixth in the 100 free (57.16).
