Ladd-led Blue Jackets boot Bucks

BUCYRUS – Bucyrus held Lauren Ladd to two points in the second half. Of course, she might also have been tired.

Ladd scored 20 points in the first half and added nine rebounds Tuesday as New Riegel rolled to a 53-37 win.

Taylor Kirian chipped in 13 points and eight boards, and Taylor Arbogast turned in 10 points, six steals and five assists.

Cold night at the line can’t halt H-L

CASTALIA – Foul shots, indeed.

Hopewell-Loudon and Margaretta each struggled at the line Tuesday, going a combined 17 for 48. But H-L made one more free throw and one more 3-pointer than the Polar Bears to hold on for a 61-57 win.

Both teams shot reasonably well until they stepped to the line.

The Chieftains (8-4) went 24 for 55 from the field, but just 9 for 28 on free throws.

Margaretta (5-10) managed a 23-for-55 effort from the field, but only went 8 for 20 at the line.

Turnovers also were problematic, with H-L committing 29 and the Polar Bears having 25.

Still, solid games were turned in.

Courtney Burns scored 25 points and dished six assists for H-L, Aleta Daniel had 19 points and seven steals and Brooke Arbogast hauled in 10 rebounds.

The Polar Bears got 20 points from Becca Dennan, 16 from Gabby Keller and 13 from Kristen Yost.

Comets drill Redmen

GENOA – Haley Pickard led four Genoa players in double-digit scoring and the Comets had plenty of points by halftime in Tuesday’s 73-25 Northern Buckeye Conference whipping of Fostoria.

Pickard tossed in 18 points for the Comets (11-4, 5-3 NBC), who led 39-15 at halftime. Erica Harder netted 16 points, Ciarra Albright scored 12 and Christy Dazley had 11.

Brynn Skilliter ripped down 17 rebounds for Genoa and Carley Gose snared six steals helping the Comets force 34 turnovers.

Jada Hampton scored 14 points for the Redmen (1-12, 0-8), but none of her teammates had more than four.
