Boys Basketball Roundup: Buckeye Central pushes back Upper Sandusky

UPPER SANDUSKY – Buckeye Central gained some breathing room with a second-quarter surge and held off Upper Sandusky from there Saturday for a 68-59 North Central Conference win.

The Bucks (9-1, 4-1 NCC) led 14-10 at the first stop, but outscored the Rams 23-14 in the next period for a 13-point halftime lead.

Sam Robertson led the way with 22 points, Austin Wurm and Cade Kaple netted 12 each and Cole Stocklin chipped in eight. Kaple and Stocklin each also grabbed five rebounds.

Kaple also tallied six assists and three steals, Austin Wurm snared four steals and Stone Wurm added three assists and three steals.

Westin Vent paced Upper Sandusky (6-5, 3-2) with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Seth Frey added 15 points and four steals, Cody Clifford scored 10 points and Brad Roeder dished five assists.

Flyers turn back OF

OLD FORT – Lake took a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter and held off Old Fort from there Saturday for a 68-65 win.

Jared Rettig scored 23 points for the unbeaten Flyers (9-0), who finished with 11 3-pointers as a team.

Connor Bowen chipped in 19 points for Lake and Cody Witt netted 12.

Hunter Perry popped in 25 points and Maison Steyer scored 22 for the Stockaders (7-2). Chris Anstead added eight rebounds and Brad Bannister had five steals and five assists.

Elmwood gets first win

BLOOMDALE – Three Elmwood players combined to outscore Hopewell-Loudon Saturday as the Royals claimed their first win with a 43-33 triumph.

Aaron Arnold led the way with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Royals (1-6).

Jarrett Childress chipped in 11 points and Sebastian Baxter tallied nine points and six steals.

The Chieftains (6-5) got 15 points and seven boards from Lommerse, but none of his teammates scored more than six points.

Eagles power off in third

PEMBERVILLE – Eastwood outscored New Riegel 32-9 in the third period to help turn a solid halftime lead into an 80-51 victory.

The Eagles (4-4) entered halftime up 35-29 before powering off for good.

Jake Schmeltz tossed in 30 points and snared three steals for Eastwood, Zach Jacoby had 12 points and nine rebounds, Grant Peters netted 11 points and Steven Bradley scored 10 points.

Jake Dryfuse scored 13 points for the Blue Jackets (3-7) and Michael Kirian had nine points and 11 boards. Tim Ink scored eight points.

Blue Devils turn back Black Knights

CAREY – Jared Wentling registered a double-double and Carey outlasted Van Buren for a 58-55 win Saturday.

The teams finished the third quarter knotted at 38, but the Blue Devils (8-2) outscored the Black Knights 20-17 from there.

Wentling led the way with 29 points and 11 boards. Bryan Powers chipped in 19 points for Carey.

Daniel Roberts scored 14 points for Van Buren (4-5) and Braxton Fasone had 11.
