Wentling-led Carey doubles up Warriors
CAREY – Jared Wentling popped in 28 points and helped Carey grab 53 rebounds Friday as the Blue Devils doubled up Mohawk, 80-40, in Midland Athletic League play.
Wentling hauled in 14 boards for the Blue Devils (1-1, 1-0 MAL), who led 23-8 at the first stop.
Bryan Powers backed him with 15 points and Laine Wentling nailed three 3-pointers en route to 11 points.
Gunnar Johnson netted 11 points for the Warriors (0-2, 0-1) and Mitch Parker scored 10.
Chieftains put SW in early hole
FOSTORIA – Hopewell-Loudon held St. Wendelin to just two points in the first quarter and shot better than 50 percent from the field Friday in a 51-31 Midland Athletic League win.
Ryan Lommerse tallied 13 points and eight rebounds and Garret Sendelbach scored 10 points for the Chieftains (1-1, 1-0 MAL), who led 14-2 after the first eight minutes and 30-8 at halftime.
Gauge Sadler backed them with seven points and five assists, Weston Hill scored seven points and Tyler Imes had six boards and four assists for H-L, which finished 18 for 33 from the field.
The Mohawks (0-2, 0-1) got 11 points each from Gabe Walters and Peter Campbell.
Walters also grabbed nine rebounds and Nick Root snared three steals.
Balance fuels Rams
BELLEVUE – Upper Sandusky raced out 20-7 in the first quarter and had four players end up scoring at least 11 points Friday in a 58-45 win over Bellevue.
West Vent’s 16 points topped the Rams (2-1), and Seth Frey, Cody Collins and Cody Clifford each netted 11.
Upper Sandusky’s edge came at the foul line, where the Rams went 23 for 31 while the Redmen ended 6 for 10.
Flyers flatten FHS
MILLBURY – Jacob Rettig hit four 3-pointers and two teammates combined for 23 points Friday as Lake beat Northern Buckeye Conference foe Fostoria, 57-37.
Rettig ended with a game-high 14 points for the Flyers (2-0, 1-0 NBC), Connor Bowen added 13 and Cody Witt tossed in 10.
Tony Mauricio and Drew Stennett each netted eight points for the Redmen (0-2, 0-1), and Rayshon Martin grabbed six rebounds.
