Swimmers pile up wins

There wasn’t much variety when it came to winners in the pool Monday as Columbian and Calvert hosted Shelby in a tri-meet. Familiar names got to the wall first time and time again.

Calvert’s Katie Tiell and Corinne Harris, and Columbian’s Natalie Howard each swam to three first place finishes, only to have Columbian’s Chris Gates and Isaac Lewis better that feat on the boys side, winning four times as the Tornadoes left the others in their wake. TC’s boys topped Shelby 52-37 and Calvert 67-4, and the girls scored a 53-41 win over Shelby and a 51-38 victory over Calvert.

For the girls, Calvert’s Harris won the 100 (58.22) and 200 freestyle (2:05.98), while Tiell won the 50 (27.45) and 500 (5:54.68). The two teamed with Emma Brodman and Amanda Traxler to win the 400 freestyle relay in 4:22.68.

Columbian’s Howard opened the day teaming with Lindsay Young, Bre Cooper and Kamryn Sharlow on the victorious 200 medley relay (2:10.02). Howard then took individual firsts in the 100 butterfly (1:05.56) and 100 backstroke (1:08.63).

On the boys side, Lewis and Gates both swam on the winning 200 (1:38.41) and 400 (3:47.19) relays along with Justin Schwartz and Braden Kuhn. Individually, Lewis also took first in the 200 IM (2:22.53) and 100 freestyle (56.61). Gates won the 200 freestyle (1:56.09) and 100 backstroke (1:00.10). Kuhn added a first in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.89).
