Prep Wrestling Roundup: Swartzmiller shines at Hopewell-Loudon Tournament

BASCOM – Chet Swartzmiller won all four times his team hit the mat Saturday to help Hopewell-Loudon finish fourth at its own Holiday Tournament.

Swartzmiller had three pins in his perfect day at 120 pounds, earning the top wrestler award for his team.

Despite his effort, the Chieftains fell 51-22 to Bay Village Bay in the match for third.

Sandusky Perkins beat Fremont Ross 50-21 in the title match, Shelby upended Toledo Waite 45-33 for fifth and Mohawk thumped Bishop Fenwick 48-18 for seventh.

Vollie Brock, 152-pounder Damion Vitt and 195-pounder Tristan Myers each went 3-1 for H-L. Brock wrestled at both 138 and 145 pounds.

The Chieftains competed in just four matches because their half of the two-pool tournament had just four teams.

Hopewell-Loudon opened with a 63-12 win over Bishop Fenwick and Toledo Waite 57-24 before falling 57-13 to Fremont Ross.

Mohawk competed in the other pool and got a 4-1 day from Chet Margraf, who wrestled at 132 and 138 pounds. Margraf was named his team’s best wrestler.

Jonathon Daniel (113, 120), Caden Emshoff (170) and Aaron Vasquez-Miller (220) each finished 3-2 for the Warriors.

Mohawk edged Cloverleaf 36-32 in its opener, then lost 51-18 to Bay Village Bay, 83-0 to Sandusky Perkins and 43-33 to Shelby.
