Boys Basketball Roundup: Buckeye Central gets early jump on The Paddle

ATTICA – The Paddle won’t be awarded until next fall. The paddling, however, was handed out Saturday.

Austin Wurm’s 22 points led four Buckeye Central double-digit scorers as the Bucks blasted Seneca East 75-39.

The teams will begin battling in football for the traveling Honey Creek Paddle as members of the Northern 10 Conference next fall. Buckeye Central plays in the North Central Conference this year, while Seneca East is wrapping up the final season of the Midland Athletic League.

Wurm hit four 3-pointers on the way to his game-high point total for the Bucks (6-1). He also hauled in nine rebounds and six steals.

Sam Robertson backed him with 18 points and Stone Wurm and Cade Kaple each tossed in 10. Seth Ollis scored eight points.

Ethan Caudill netted 13 points for the Tigers (0-8) and Josh Waggoner had six points and five rebounds. No other Seneca East player scored more than five points.

Perry, Stockaders roll on

ELMORE – Hunter Perry’s trek up the scoring list continues.

Perry led everyone with 34 points Saturday as Old Fort thumped Woodmore 74-48, moving the senior to fifth on the school’s list of boys career point leaders with 1,041.

Saturday’s effort pushed him past coach Eric Hoover, who ended his career as a Stockader with 1,009 points.

Perry also turned in eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists for the Stockaders (6-1).

Maison Steyer chipped in nine points and Brad Bannister snared seven steals.

The Wildcats (1-6) got 14 points from Phil Thorbahn and 11 from Zach Gephart.

Kirian keys Blue Jackets

NEW RIEGEL – Michael Kirian had a solid double-double and two teammates combined for 23 points Saturday as New Riegel beat Bucyrus 59-39.

Kirian’s 11 points and 15 rebounds sparked the Blue Jackets (3-4), who led 16-3 at the first stop and finished 21 for 34 from the field.

Jake Dryfuse added 12 points and seven boards and Tim Ink had 11 points, three assists and three steals.

Dalton King scored 15 points for the Redmen (4-3) and Brian Snouffer netted nine.

Timmons-led Raiders cruise

KANSAS – Colin Timmons registered a double-double and Lakota followed his lead Saturday in a 46-27 win over Vanlue.

Timmons turned in game-highs of 14 points and 12 rebounds and added four steals for the Raiders (3-4).

Josh Kirkpatrick added 10 points for Lakota.

Nick Hagerty’s nine points and Jacob Coldren’s eight points and seven boards paced the Wildcats (2-4).

1-2 punch leads Mohawks

LAKESIDE – Gabe Walters had a double-double and Nick Root led everyone in scoring Saturday as St. Wendelin dropped Danbury 49-37.

Walters keyed the Mohawks (2-4) with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Root had 17 points and three steals.

Brady Rutter added seven points and five steals for St. Wendelin.

Dominic Manuella scored 10 points for the Lakers (1-7).
