Local College Roundup: Heidelberg men open season with a win
CINCINNATI – Under the leadership of first-year head coach Andy Bucheit, Heidelberg’s men opened up a new chapter with a 72-59 win over Transylvania University.
Keith Mackie lead ‘Berg with 16 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Jackson Blue backed up Mackie with 13 points, 11 rebounds and one assist of his own.
Marcquice Taylor recorded 12 points, while Cole Williams added nine points and three rebounds. Mike Petrie and Frank Longhino each had seven points for the Student Princes.

Shriver remains perfect, ‘Berg women 2-0 at tip-off tourney
HIRAM – Heidleberg was the only team to enter the Hiram college tip-off tournament and leave with an unblemished record.
Under first-year coach Morgan Shriver, the Student Princes kicked their season off with a win the first night against Pittsburgh-Greenburg 83-79. They followed up with a convincing 91-61 win over Hilbert Saturday.
Kathleen Phillips led The ‘Berg with 20 points, going 5 for 6 from the free throw line.
Carli Patrick wasn’t far behind, leading Heidelberg with eight rebounds and a 7-for-9 effort from the floor on jumpers to tally 16 total points.
Heidelberg led at the half by 20 and made the run on Hilbert 47-37 in the second to finish out the win.
The Student Princes returns to the court Tuesday when they travel to Albion College to take on the Britons.
Tiffin spikes Cavaliers
Tiffin University took down Walsh University 25-12, 25-14, 24-26, 25-11.
Danielle McQuade lead the Dragons with 24 kills and 11 digs, while Tiffany Buchinger recorded five kills and 12 digs. Sabine Stadler recorded 10 kills and two digs and Olivia Cobb added 11 kills.
Walsh’s Krissy Sokol had 13 kills and seven digs, and Janelle Yunker recorded four kills and two digs. Paige Chandler had 11 kills and five digs and Kelly Miller added 10 kills.
Palocko leads the way for HU
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich – Brad Palocko finished 45th (26:17.7) during the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships.
Heidelberg’s men finished 25th overall out of 35 teams.
Zach Flint took 116th place (27:20.2) for the Student Princes, while David Kindall finished 167th (28:19.0), John Webb finished 180th (28:34.7) and Brandon McNeil took 191st (28.42.9) to round out The ‘Berg’s top performers.
