Prep Football Roundup: Aerial assault not enough for Raiders
FREMONT – A big night of passing just couldn’t do it for Lakota.
Colin Timmons threw for 323 yards Friday – just 65 yards less than the team got all last year – in a 13-0 Midland Athletic League loss to Fremont St. Joe.
Timmons went 25 for 44 without an interception, but also without a touchdown.
The only scores came from the Crimson Streaks (4-2, 2-1 MAL), who got a 3-yard Mitchell Gonya run in the second quarter and a 7-yard scoring run in the third from Marcus Kerr.
Kerr ended with 64 yards on 21 carries and Jake Yeckley went 8 for 13 for 126 passing yards.
Meanwhile, Dakota Bowling caught nine passes for 128 yards for the Raiders (3-3, 0-3), Jack Raymond hauled in six passes for 92 yards and Josh Kirkpatrick had five catches for 71 yards.
Lakota’s woes came on the ground, with the Raiders being held to minus 38 yards on 18 carries.
Watkins you do against Galion?
BUCYRUS – Galion’s Darian Watkins was a problem Buckeye Central couldn’t find an answer for Friday in a 46-0 defeat.
Watkins threw for 210 yards and three touchdowns. Watkins scored the first touchdown in the game, on a 35-yard rush just 27 seconds into the game. Nick Flowers added a TD on a 6-yard run just three minutes later.
Alex Armistad added to Buckeye Central’s list of problems, scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter off Watkins’ passing arm to close the half.
The third quarter saw Galion’s Drake Barnett rush for a 5-yard touchdown. Galion closed the book on the Bucks when Kevin Boshier scored the final TD with five minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Buckeye Central went 3 for 7 passing, but finished with zero passing yards. The Bucks also only ran for 56 yards.
