State-ranked Truckers flatten flat Columbian
State-ranked Norwalk contained Columbian in a three-game match Thursday, cruising to a 25-11, 25-15, 25-18 Northern Ohio League win.
The victory moved the Truckers, ranked third in Division II, to 7-0 in NOL play while Columbian fell to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the league.
The Tornadoes struggled all night, managing only 17 kills, 14 assists, 22 digs and only two aces, with nine service errors.
“This was a team loss tonight. We had a lack of energy, a lack of focus, a lack of fire and it shows in those stats,” TC coach Bill Bonham said. “When you play three games of varsity volleyball and those are the stats, there’s a problem there.
“Norwalk is a very good team,” he said. “I don’t know if we could have beaten them, but we did not play with any energy tonight to find out.”
Chieftains dig up Carey
BASCOM – Courtney Burns turned in a triple-double and was one of six Hopewell-Loudon players who recorded 10 digs Thursday in a 25-10, 25-23, 25-21 Midland Athletic League win over Carey.
Burns led the way with 20 kills, 15 assists and four block assists.
Kassie Shaver, Kassie Welly, Michelle Welly and Baleigh Searles also each came up with 10 digs for the Chieftains (5-8, 3-2 MAL).
Shelbi Sauber chipped in 15 assists, 10 digs, five aces and five digs, Shaver belted six aces and five kills, Brooklyn Arbogast (2 aces, 2 block assists) slammed five kills and Tianna Opp added two block assists.
Carey’s Makenzie Wentling had two aces and 10 digs, Logan Johnson had one ace and 12 digs, and Claire Allison recorded 11 digs.
Calvert stays perfect in MAL
Calvert dominated Old Fort 25-10, 25-13, 25-14 to improve to 5-0 in the Midland Athletic League.
Amber Perry paced the Senecas (9-4) by slamming 13 kills and 10 blocks, with Haley Felter smacking seven kills and seven blocks.
Megan Casale handed out 34 assists, Kelsey Hendrix tallied 16 digs, Lindsay Bickley belted nine kills and Ashley Perry lined five kills.
Old Fort’s Allison Adelsperger recorded three aces and one kill, Jordan Magers had one ace, two kills, and six digs, and Shelby Bilger added one ace and 10 digs.
Rams rough up Crestline
CRESTLINE – Kalene Johnson served 11 of her team’s 26 aces Thursday as Upper Sandusky hammered Crestline 25-4, 25-7, 25-6 in North Central Conference play.
Johnson also tallied eight digs for the Rams (10-1, 7-1 NCC), Jessie Holly drilled 11 kills and seven aces and Emma Smith handed out 16 assists.
Molly Owens lined eight kills, Madison Bianchi added six digs and four aces and Taylor Graboski belted four aces.
Tigers roll up Bettsville
BETTSVILLE – Seneca East evened its record at 8-8 Thursday in a 25-7, 25-6, 25-10 Midland Athletic League win over Bettsville.
Kristen Bowerman (2 aces) led the assault with 10 kills for the Tigers (3-2 MAL) and Mykayla Ruffing (2 kills) tossed up 16 assists.
Rachel Bauman added nine assists and six kills against the Bobcats, Kayleen England hammered eight kills, and Cameil Ruffing slammed six kills.
BC sweeps Wynford
NEW WASHINGTON – Buckeye Central improved to 13-2 Thursday after sweeping Wynford 25-14, 25-16, 25-16. Jenna Delarber led the team in kills with 15. Kilee Kimmel and Emily Weithman each recorded 14 assists in the Bucks’ victory.
Troike-led Mohawks cruise over Lakota
FOSTORIA – Kamryn Troike blasted seven aces and six kills Thursday to fuel St. Wendelin’s 25-12, 25-12, 25-14 Midland Athletic League win over Lakota.
Allie Rutter chipped in five kills and five digs for the Mohawks (5-7, 1-4 MAL), Meghan Reiter tallied five assists and five digs, Sophia Volpe came up with seven digs and Hailee Burns had five digs.
