Special teams kill TU’s chances
LEBANON, Ill. – Tiffin coach Gary Goff said victory was within his team’s grasp, but one aspect of the contest killed its chances against McKendree.
The Bearcats returned a kick and a punt for touchdowns, and the Dragons missed a pair of field goals in a 32-28 season-opening loss.
“Anytime you give up 20 points in special teams, you’re gonna lose,” Goff said. “Offense, defense did good things. It’s that third phase.”
Joey Frendo put up big numbers in his first start as TU’s quarterback, throwing for 362 yards and completing a pair of touchdowns.
“Joey had a good game,” Goff said. “He did a great job running the offense.”
Receiver Tony Shead also had a big day for TU, with 165 yards receiving and a touchdown catch.
