Emerick-to-Miller connection fuels Rams
RAWSON – Upper Sandusky’s Brandon Miller scored twice off passes from Taylor Emerick in Thursday’s 3-1 North Central Ohio Soccer Association win over Cory-Rawson.
The Rams (6-5, 3-3 NCOSA) never trailed, getting first-half goals from Cameron Brady and Miller.
Miller tacked on his second score with 37:42 to go and Clay Musgrave stopped 12 of the 13 shots he faced to preserve the win.
Nick Reid had the assist on Brady’s goal.
The Hornets (3-5-1, 2-3) scored on Mason Waltz’s unassisted goal. Kyle Rossman had eight saves against 11 shots.
Upper Sandusky girls soccer boots Harding, 4-1
UPPER SANDUSKY – Upper Sandusky’s girls outscored Marion Harding 3-1 in the second half Thursday en route to a 4-1 victory.
The Rams (7-3-1) led 1-0 at intermission, thanks to Jaime Calvin converting a pass from Sierra Carey.
The rest of the scores came in the game’s final 25 minutes, with Calvin assisting on Upper Sandusky’s first two goals in the final period.
Sarah Rall took a crossing pass from her with 24:15 to go, and Calvin’s through ball a little more than seven minutes later turned into a Sierra Carey goal.
The Presidents got on the board with 5:31 to play, but Calvin capped the scoring at the 2:44 mark on a pass from Allison Moser.
Keely Stover had three saves for Upper Sandusky, and Grecua Catalan stopped 17 shots for Harding.
Knights KO Columbian
VAN BUREN – Trenton Boyett and J.J. Mowrey both scored twice Thursday in Van Buren’s 5-1 North Central Ohio Soccer Association win over Columbian.
Boyett’s goals came in the 20th and 53rd minutes, while Mowrey scored in the 39th and 48th minutes for the Black Knights (7-3).
Daniel Roberts snapped a scoreless tie for Van Buren with a penalty kick in the 14th minute, and later had the assist on Mowrey’s second goal. Alex Dewey assisted Boyett’s first goal.
Columbian avoided the shutout when Christian Kiesel converted a John Funk pass in the 78th minute.
Van Buren’s Nathan Maynard stopped five of the nine shots he faced.
Josh Gibson had four saves against 11 shots for the Tornadoes (8-2, 3-2 NCOSA).
Ada slips away
ADA – Caleb Garmon scored the game’s lone goal Thursday as Ada edged winless Calvert 1-0.
“We’re starting to come together as a unit a little better, and the kids are stating to play a little better soccer,” Calvert coach Mike Fabrizio said. “That’s something we’re striving for, to play more competitive. I feel the kids are stepping up and their effort level has improved over the past several games.”
Garmon’s goal for the Bulldogs came with about 12 minutes to play. Ben Neville stopped all three Calvert shots.
Anthony Traxler recorded 10 saves for the Senecas (0-6-1).
Ross storms past Stockaders
OLD FORT – Fremont Ross stormed past Old Fort 7-2 Thursday.
The Little Giants led 3-1 at halftime.
The Stockaders got their goals from Brad Heilman, off an Eric Bell assist, and Brandon Tittle, off a free kick.
Jake Wilson stopped 16 shots for Old Fort, which took eight shots.
Norwalk trucks Tornadoes
Norwalk swept Columbian in tennis Thursday night. In singles action, Norwalk’s Sara Stoll defeated Sarah Guzowski 7-5, 6-4, Lauren Ott rolled over Kristina Talbot-Koehl 6-0, 6-0 and Karlee Talkington was victorious over Julianne Peacock 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, Lauren Steffani and Johnna Thomas defeated Ashley Niedermier and Tiffany Walker 6-4, 6-0, and the team of Brenna Berry and Audrey Nutter bested Kayla Magrum and Sam Krintzline 7-6, (7-2), 6-2.
Calvert comes up short
Calvert couldn’t get the job done on the road falling to Galion 4-1. In singles action, Galion’s Raven Crawford defeated Madison Daniel 6-1, 7-6, 6-1, Kayla Laforest defeated Laura Haley 7-5, 5-7, 6-1. CiCi Burtis had Calvert’s only win of the night beating Sierra Johnson 6-1, 6-0.
Galion swept both doubles matches as the team of Kelsey Cassady and Sara Cassady defeated Margaret Bowers and Samantha Gase 4-6, 0-6. Kerrigan Kwait and Cassie Recker fell to Leah Fisher and Sydney Dameron 6-1, 6-1.
Warriors ground Rockets
OAK HARBOR – Mohawk’s Katelynn Kinley shot a 41 and teammate Brooke Weininger joined her in the Under-50 Club, posting a 46 in Mohawk’s 193-220 victory over Oak Harbor at Oak Harbor Golf Club.
Chelsea Clinger added a 52 for the Warriors (9-3) and Hanna Burks posted a 54.
