Reese, Garza lead area charge at season opener

HEBRON – Lakota’s Cariss Reese ran third and Old Fort’s Kayla Garza also turned in a top-10 effort Saturday to lead area runners at the OHSAA Preseason Invitational at National Trail Raceway.

Reese and Garza and their teams ran in the Open C/D race, with Reese crossing the line in 20:50.86 and Garza taking ninth in 22:19.2.

Lakota finished sixth as a team with 111 points, while Old Fort Fostoria did not field full teams.

Morgan Mowry backed Reese by taking 13th (22:59.98) for the Raiders, Amanda Lane claimed 37th (25:40.11), Barbara Sprauer claimed 56th (28:50.25) and McKenna Harrison came in 62nd (30:14.33).

Jackie Becker added a 12th (22:56.95) for Old Fort and Alexis Rhodes ran 15th (23:10.05).

Fostoria got a 70th from Taylor Keeley (31:47.84) and a 76th from Andrea Keckler (35:01.87).

Trio of top-30 runners

HEBRON – Lakota and Old Fort each had a runner in the top 30 of the Section A race, and another area runner finished in the top 30 in the Open A/B Saturday at the OHSAA Preseason Invitational at National Trail Raceway.

Luke Baker of Lakota topped the area runners by taking 25th (18:15.53) in the Section A race, with Old Fort’s Brad Bannister three spots behind him (18:25.8).

Old Fort finished 11th in the team standings with 307 points and Lakota ended 13th out of 20 teams with 333 points.

Elliott Phillimore chipped in a 59th (19:15.66) for Old Fort and Donald Young came in 61st (19:17.64).

Caleb Tolento backed up Baker by running 42nd (18:46.55) for the Raiders, and Isaac Ritter ended 93rd (20:27.86).

In the Open A/B race, Old Fort’s Josh Kaltenbach clocked in 27th (24:06). The Stockaders did not field a full team in that race.

Fostoria competed in the Section B race, finishing 20th (493) out of 23 teams.

C.J. Matheney’s 58th (18:48.54) paced the Redmen and Alan Cross came in 103rd (20:06.51).
