Prep Tennis Roundup: Senecas open up strong

BUCYRUS – Calvert swept the doubles matches and won twice in singles Monday to open the season with a 4-1 win over Bucyrus.

Samantha Gase and CeCi Burtis dispatched Katie Jacobs and Laney Nollenkepf 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1 doubles for the Senecas, and Cassie Recker and Kerrigan Kwiat dominated Haley Fetter and Megan Flaherty 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2.

Laura Haley gave Calvert a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles over Kaylee Lewis, and Regina Hoepf doubled up Ashton Hawkins 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3.

The Redmen’s lone win came at No. 1 single, where Macey Sheerer beat Madison Daniel 6-2, 6-1.

Kenton edges Rams

UPPER SANDUSKY – Calynn Morris and Kirsten Osborne rallied back for a win at No. 1 doubles Monday to cap Kenton’s 3-2 win over Upper Sandusky.

The Kenton duo fell 6-3 in the first set to Rene Vent and Kayla Gault, but rebounded with wins of 7-5 and 6-3.

The Wildcats’ other two wins came in singles play.

Claire Oates beat Kilee Saylor 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, and Breanna Alexander defeated Nadia English 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2.

Rams Melissa Latham and Hope Voorhees blanked Kenton’s Sierra Prater and Brittany Shepherd 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Taylor Dilley added a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles for Upper Sandusky over Kendra Tidd.

Titans drop FHS in opener

FOSTORIA – Ottawa-Glandorf blanked Fostoria 5-0 Monday in the season-opening match for both teams.

Fostoria’s closest match came at No. 2 singles, where Erica Moore fell 6-1, 6-4 to Tiffany Kahle.

Ottawa-Glandorf’s Amy Schmiedebusch beat Autumn Affholder 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Titans and Haley Decker downed Jillian Smith 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

Fostoria’s Jessica Kauffman and Sabra Tate lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles to Alyssa Schnipke and Lauren Schnieg. Ottawa-Glandorf’s Beth Potthoff and Erin Hageman beat Destinie Farris and Ellen Guan 6-0, 6-0.
