Prep Tennis: Calvert sweeps Crestline for first win

CRESTLINE – Monday’s match with Crestline went quite well for Calvert, as it swept away the Bulldogs, 5-0.

It was Calvert’s first win of the season. It is now 1-1.

Madison Daniel got things rolling for the Senecas at first singles, defeating Patience Martin, 6-2, 6-2. Laura Haley kept it going, beating the Bulldogs’ Magen Grasley, 6-0, 6-0. Regina Hoepf closed out singles by recording a forfeit.

CeCi Burtis teamed with Calvert’s Samantha Gase to knock off Crestline’s Brea Quail and Kaylee MaKeever, 6-0, 6-0. Then, Senecas Cassie Recker and Kerrigan Kwiat downed Hope Martin and Megan Bartholeme, 6-1, 6-0.

TC falls in Clyde

CLYDE – Kayla Magrum picked up Columbian’s lone victory in its match at Clyde, as the Fliers defeated the Tornadoes, 4-1.

Magrum was winning her second singles match against Emi Bowers 5-4 when Bowers retired for an injury default.

Clyde won first singles when Andrea Nearhood beat TC’s Sarah Guzowski, 6-2, 6-4. The Fliers also won third singles when Brianna Baughman topped Tiffany Walker 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, Clyde’s Amanda Cahill and Lexi Weber downed Julianne Peacock and Ashley Niedermier, 6-0, 6-1. In second doubles, Clyde’s Brooke Smith and Clara Sewell defeated Sam Krentzline and Kristina Talbot-Koehler, 6-0, 6-1.

Kenton sweeps Redmen

KENTON – Kenton had little trouble with Fostoria Monday, sweeping it 5-0.

The Wildcats’ Claire Oates opened things by beating Autumn Affholder, 6-1, 6-0.Breanna Alexander then topped Fostoria’s Erica Moore, 6-0, 6-1, while Kenton’s Kendra Tiddbeat Jillian Smith, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, Kenton’s Calynn Morris and Kirsten Osborn beat Jessica Kauffman and Sabra Tate, 6-0, 6-1. The Wildcats’ Cierra Naval and Sierra Prate beat Destinie Farris and Ellen Guan, 6-1, 6-2.

Thye Wildcats improved to 2-0, while Fostoria fell to 0-2.
