Prep Golf: SW bunches for victory

St. Wendelin’s top three scorers ended within three strokes of one another Thursday in a 183-200 win over New Riegel at Mohawk Country Club. Calvert also competed, but did not field a full team.

Joey DeHaven’s 43 paced the Mohawks (7-1), Peter Campbell shot a 44 and Gabe Walters carded a 46.

Eagles helped, with Walters and DeHaven both carding one on the par-5 No. 5 hole.

Jake Dryfuse turned in a 48 for New Riegel (2-3) and also eagled No. 5. Lance Smith and Aaron Reinhart both shot a 50.

Calvert’s Matt Huffmon led everyone with a 40, shooting eagles at the par-4 No. 3 hole and at No. 5. Bryan Kennedy added a 44.

McGinnis leads Bucks again

Adam McGinnis did what Adam McGinnis has been doing all season. And even though the Bucks’ top player wasn’t the medalist Thursday, his effort – combined with the typical balance from his teammates – allowed Buckeye Central to defeat Bucyrus, 168-173.

McGinnis shot a 38, once again breaking 40 to lead his team.

Tanner Zaebst shot a 41 for the Bucks, who improved to 7-0, 5-0 in North Central Conference matches. Every BC player shot no worse than 49.

Bucyrus had the match’s medalist in Brian Snouffer, who shot a 37. The Redmen dropped to 2-1.

Calvert soccer falls to Miller City

Miller City spoiled Calvert’s season opener by shutting out the Senecas, 6-0.

The Wildcats were led by Jackson Lammerse and Jared Snyder, who each scored two goals.

Anthony Traxler made 17 saves for the Senecas.
