Calvert finds balance in opener
Calvert had a successful season opener, vanquishing the Black Knights of Van Buren 25-9, 25-8, 25-15. Haley Felter lined 10 kills and had four blocks while Amber Perry added eight kills and four blocks in a balanced Seneca attack.
“It was hard to find much to complain about in the huddles,” Calvert coach Greg Hendrix said. “The girls were all doing their jobs tonight.”
Meridith Lucius slammed six kills and served five aces while Megan Casale dished out 28 assists. Kelsey Hendrix paced the defense with 17 digs.
Ladd has triple-double in New Riegel win
NEW RIEGEL – Buckeye Central struck first, but New Riegel got the last laugh. After dropping the first game to last year’s regional champion, the Blue Jackets rallied to take the next three in a 22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 28-26 victory.
Three Blue Jackets hit double digits in kills led by Kara Scherger’s 13. Lauren Ladd added 12 while Taylor Arbogast slammed 11.
Ladd finished with a triple-double adding 16 assists and 12 digs. Scherger came up with 28 digs defensively and Arbogast had 18. Brittany Gillig led the defense with 30 digs.
Morgan Noftz added a double-double dishing out 18 assists and picking up 15 digs. Natalie Reinhart also added 10 digs.
New Riegel improves to 2-0 on the season.
TC serves up a victory
FREMONT – Columbian coach Bill Bonham admitted their wasn’t much offense out of his Tornadoes Tuesday night, but that’s because not much was needed. Bonham credited his team’s service game as the key factor in a 25-12, 25-20, 25-14 win over Fremont Ross.
“We had a good serve going tonight, took them out of their offense for the most part,” Bonham said.
Haley Sendelbach paced TC slamming 13 kills and coming up with six blocks. Alyssa Price served five of the team’s 12 aces, while also dishing out 14 assists. Maddie Williams chipped in four kills and four aces as Columbian moves to 2-0 on the season.
Blue Devils storm back
CAREY – Carey battled back from a two-game deficit Tuesday to upend Arcadia, 17-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-11.
Logan Johnson’s double-double of 13 digs and 10 kills sparked the Blue Devils (2-0), and Shelby Kin came close by hammering 12 kills and eight blocks.
Shelby Seifert slammed 14 kills, seven blocks and six aces, Sydney Wentling tossed up 41 assists, Makenzie Wentling came up with 23 digs, Claire Allison chipped in 15 digs and Adrienne Hackworth had 11 digs and seven kills.
