LANCASTER – Jason Willman couldn’t be stopped yesterday, capturing the distance double for the second week in a row, while Ben Hahler and Kevin Moore also qualified for next week’s state meet, helping the Tigers to a runner-up finish at the Division III regional in Lancaster.

Gahanna Columbus Academy ran away with the team title, tallying 85 points.

Willman took the 1,600 (4:25) and 3,200 (9:36) to guide the Tigers. Hahler captured the third regional title for the Tigers, throwing a personal best of 57-4 to win the shot put. Kevin Moore took the final state qualifying spot in the 110 hurdles, finishing fourth.

Columbian distance runners each sixth at regionals

AMHERST – Columbian distance runners Tyler Lewis and Brandon Gibson each finished sixth at the Division I regional track meet at Amherst, narrowly missing a trip to state.

Lewis ran 9:37 in the 3,200, while Gibson finished the 1,600 in 4:25.

“It was a fast field for both of them, and they ran very well,” said Tornadoes coach Maria Focht.

The meet was delayed due to weather for about an hour. The delay began just before Gibson’s race.

“They ran good races, [but] I know they’re disappointed,” Focht said.
