Prep Roundup: Columbian girls top Norwalk

NORWALK – Columbian’s girls won eight events at a dual meet at Norwalk, and held off the Truckers, 66-61 Tuesday.

The Tornadoes were paced by three relay wins. The team of Alex Foncannon, Alexis Desjardins, Marissa Ward and Megan Moore won the 4×800 in 11:17.7. The Tornadoes’ team of Michaela Sharlow, Chandler Carley, Annie Demith and McKenna Theis won the 4×200 in 1:51.1. The 4×100 was taken by Sharlow, Tara Baker, Demith and Theis in 53.4.

On the boys side, Columbian fell to the Truckers, 75 5/6-52 1/6. Two of the TC wins came in the jumps. Josh Flint scored the long jump in 20-3, while Caleb Peacock went 5-8 in the high jump.

Upper Sandusky finishes first, second at tri

UPPER SANDUSKY – Upper Sandusky boys used several 1-2 finishes in the distance events to wedge open an 11 point team victory over Ontario, 81 1/2-70 1/2.

The girls couldn’t keep pace the Warriors, but finished a close second, 72-66. Wynford finished third in both meets.

Upper Sandusky’s Brennan Miller swept the jumps, with a 6-2 clearance in the high jump and a 19-2 1/2 mark in the long jump. Dominic Solis added a first in the 800 (2:04.84) while team mate Trent Howard registered a victory in the 1,600 (4:41.37). Solis and Howard were both on the winning 4×800 team (8:52.34). Upper Sandusky also took the 4×400 (3:38.14) while Tylor Pritchard captured the 400 (54.65).

On the girls side, Anna Massara took the pole vault (9-6), Brittanie Bukovich won the long jump (14-4 1/2), Logan Kinley dashed to first in the 100 (13.51) and Taylor King crossed the line first in the 800 (2:40.02).

McDonnell leads Buckeye Central

NEW WASHINGTON – Austin McDonnell was a lone winner and even established a meet record as the Bucks went on to finish fourth at it’s home invitational.

McDonnell cruised to a 40.78 clocking in the 300 hurdles, over three seconds over runner-up Tyler Reineck from Monroeville.

McDonnell also won the 110 hurdles (15.53) while the boys 4×800 took first (8:59).

The girls finished 10th, led by the 4×800 relay team, who took third (11:01).

Columbian tennis blanks Redmen

Columbian didn’t miss a beat, or maybe a swing on Tuesday, downing Fostoria 5-0.

In first singles ,Nick Gaietto handed Fostoria’s Isaigh Bingh a 6-0, 6-0 loss. Mason McCool won over Trey Sander 6-0, 6-2 in second singles while Austin Crabtree shut out Redman Sabian Avanal in third singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Eline Widman and Adam Young cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 decision in first doubles over Tony Reynolds and Austin Correll, while Zach Gaietto and Tyler Wise eeked out a 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 victory over Aaron Hinkle and Collin Bernel-Danner in second doubles.
