Phillimore takes sting out of Hornets
OLD FORT – Many times this season, Old Fort has found itself on the wrong end of one-run games.
Thursday, the Stockaders made another team feel that frustration, edging Cory-Rawson, 3-2.
Behind a strong effort on the mound from A.J. Phillimore, the Stockaders got just enough offense, scoring two runs in the third and another in the sixth.
It ended up being enough for Phillimore, who improved to 1-1 while striking out nine, walking two and giving up five hits.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, Old Fort bounced back two innings later.
Dalton Perry singled in Garet Kimmet to tie the game, then, after a passed ball, Phillimore drove Perry in with a hit.
After the Hornets (2-7) tied up the game in the fourth, Perry again got the Stockaders going in the sixth, by doubling. A batter later, Jake Wilson singled through the left side to score him.
“We made plays when we needed to down the stretch,” Old Fort coach Matt Rader said.
The Stockaders, who improved to 2-8, played errorless ball Thursday.
