Prep Basketball Roundup: Mohawks turn back Tigers

FOSTORIA – St. Wendelin gained some breathing room in the second quarter and pulled away some more in the fourth Thursday to upend Midland Athletic League foe Seneca East 55-46.

The Mohawks (14-7, 6-4 MAL) trailed 13-12 at the first stop, but used a 13-3 burst in the second to forge a 25-16 halftime lead.

Seneca East cut the deficit to 38-34 by the end of the third quarter, but St. Wendelin outscored the Tigers (11-8, 4-5) by a 17-12 margin in the final period.

Colleen Fondessy’s 21 points, 11 rebounds and five assists keyed the Mohawks. Kamryn Troike added 18 points and six boards, Ali Mowrey scored eight points and Heather Saalman snared four steals.

Ashton Daniel and Seina Adachi each netted 12 points for the Tigers, with Daniel hauling in five boards. Hannah Hahler added nine points and five rebounds and Lauren Sprenger had five rebounds.

Mohawk KO’s Old Fort

OLD FORT – Ashley Parker and Julie Adelsperger combined to outscore Old Fort in Mohawk’s 67-23 Midland Athletic League win Thursday.

Parker led everyone with 16 points and Adelsperger had 15 for the Warriors, with Parker snaring four steals.

Molly Cleveland and Sarah Parker each chipped in seven points, with Parker dishing five assists. Lynsey Trusty tallied four assists and three steals, and Clara Adelsperger and Cleveland both had three steals.

Shelby Bilger tossed in 11 points for the Stockaders. Sam Hartsel grabbed five rebounds.

Trumpler a perfect leader against St. Joe

FREMONT – Lauren Trumpler had a perfect night of shooting Thursday in Hopewell-Loudon’s 61-46 Midland Athletic League win over Fremont St. Joe.

Trumpler finished 8 for 8 from the field, including four 3-pointers, and 3 for 3 at the line for the Chieftains (14-7, 5-4 MAL).

She also hauled in seven rebounds and dished four assists.

Courtney Burns backed her with 15 points and Cassandra Hohman added 10. Danielle Rohrbach grabbed six boards, Aleta Daniel handed out six assists and Burns had four assists.

Cassidy Frank’s 15 points led the Crimson Streaks (9-12, 2-7). Brianna Reardon scored nine points and Brennan Reardon added eight.

Wurm, Kaple spark Bucks

MANSFIELD – Austin Wurm turned in a double-double and Cade Kaple tossed in 16 points Thursday in Buckeye Central’s 58-44 win over Mansfield Christian.

Kaple tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Bucks (11-7), who led 16-4 at the first stop.

Stone Wurm chipped in eight points for Buckeye Central.

Brandon Mount’s game-high 19 points keyed the Flames (14-4) and Stevie Brown scored 11. Robbie Barnhill hauled in six boards.
