Girls Basketball Roundup: Tornadoes escape from Blue Streaks
SANDUSKY – Jocelyn Cole pumped in 27 points and two teammates combined for another 30 Saturday as Columbian held off Northern Ohio League foe Sandusky, 70-68 in overtime.
Cole drained seven 3-pointers to fuel the Tornadoes (7-13, 2-7 NOL).
Megan Moore chipped in 16 points for TC and Valesha Province tossed in 14.
The Tornadoes needed every one of them as the Blue Streaks got 25 points from Kelsey Peters and Achelle Smith-Crager.
Daniel-led Tigers roar
ATTICA – Ashton Daniel’s first-half point total nearly matched New London’s effort for the game Saturday as the Tigers coasted to a 53-17 win.
Daniel netted 16 of her game-high 20 points in the first half for the Tigers, who didn’t allow the Wildcats to reach double digits until the third period.
Lauren Sprenger and Emily Depinet added eight points each for Seneca East and Hannah Hahler hauled in 10 rebounds.
Blue Jackets fall in second-straight game
NORTH ROBINSON – Colonel Crawford contained New Riegel in the middle quarters and nearly got a double-double from Nikkayla Garverick in Saturday’s 57-44 win.
The Eagles ended the first quarter down 17-14, but they outscored New Riegel 17-8 in the second and 15-9 in the third to forge a 46-34 lead.
Garverick led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds for Colonel Crawford (17-4), Bailey Schott scored 14 points and Katie Sieger netted nine points.
The foul line aided the Eagles, who went 25 for 32 there while New Riegel (16-4) ended 16 for 24.
Lauren Ladd’s 16 points and seven boards topped New Riegel. Abby Cassidy backed her with 13 points and four steals and Kara Scherger handed out three assists.
