Quartet of Tornadoes finish in top 10 at Maumee Bay
OREGON – Seth Williams captured the 152-pound weight class Saturday while three others won their finals match to help Columbian finish 10th at the Maumee Bay Invitational.
To finish 10th with just four kids wrestling was a highlight for Columbian coach Chad Long.
“I think it’s pretty awesome. There were a lot of teams there. To have 28 teams there and take four kids and finish top 10 is outstanding. We finished very strong in the finals. I think everyone wrestled to the best of their abilities,” Long said.
Columbian finished 4-0 in the finals, including a championship by Seth Wililams. Williams took a 6-3 decision over Delta’s Tyler Fahrer who was the runner-up in the Division III state championship last year.
Derik Kopp also got revenge on Oregon Clay’s Gavin Nelson, who defeated Kopp a week prior at the Clyde Invitational, 2-0. Kopp turned the tables Saturday, winning the third place match over Nelson, 4-2 in OT.
Mason Correll finished fifth over Perrysburg’s Alec Herhold (6-3) at 138 pounds while Roman Williams was seventh by default at 126 pounds.
