Prep Basketball Roundup: Jackets surge away after first quarter
NORTH BALTIMORE – New Riegel stormed off in the middle quarter and had three players each score at least 12 points in Thursday’s 64-41 Midland Athletic League domination of North Baltimore.
The Blue Jackets (11-2, 5-1 MAL) ended the first quarter with an 18-14 lead, but outscored the Tigers 42-12 over the next 16 minutes to put the game out of reach.
Kara Scherger tossed in 16 points for New Riegel, Taylor Arbogast scored 15 and Abby Cassidy netted all 12 of her points behind the 3-point line.
Lauren Ladd backed them with eight rebounds, and Cassidy and Arbogast each hauled in seven.
Arbogast also tallied four steals and four assists, Scherger tallied five steals and four assists and Morgan Noftz chipped in five assists and four steals.
Olivia Frost’s 14 points led North Baltimore (7-6, 2-3) and Ricci Emahiser had nine.
Raiders overpower Old Fort early
OLD FORT – Lakota blanked Old Fort, 11-0, in the first quarter and benefited from the Stockaders’ woeful 8-for-24 showing at the line Thursday in a 39-26 Midland Athletic League win.
Jessica Walter’s 15 points sparked the Raiders. Ally Hovis added nine points.
Sara Bell led Old Fort with eight points and seven rebounds. Sam Hartsel hauled in 11 boards and Shelby Bilger grabbed another nine.
Mohawk’s 1-2 punch KO’s St. Joe
SYCAMORE – Lynsey Trusty and Sarah Runion pumped in 15 points each Thursday in Mohawk’s 67-33 thumping of Midland Athletic League foe Fremont St. Joe.
Trusty added six assists, five rebounds and four steals, and Runion tallied steals and three assists.
Julie Adelsperger backed them with 13 points.
Kaple, Snyder lead BC charge
BUCYRUS – Cade Kaple and Dustin Snyder combined for 25 points Thursday in Buckeye Central’s 54-37 North Central Conference win over Bucyrus.
Kaple led the way with 13 points and Snyder netted 12 for the Bucks (5-6, 1-2 NCC).
Austin Wurm chipped in eight points and eight rebounds for Buckeye Central, which shot better than 50 percent (20 of 36) from the field.
