Kopp, Seth Williams lead Columbian after day one

OREGON – Columbian 132-pounder Derik Kopp and 152-pounder Seth Williams each went 2-0 Friday, helping TC end the first day in 12th at the Maumee Bay Classic. Oregon Clay leads after the first day.

Kopp pinned Sylvania Southview’s Jared Grundberg in 3:15 in the opening match before adding a 40-second pin against Nate Stonehill from Lima Bath. He faces Mount Vernon’s Lane Hinkle (20-5) in the semifinals.

Seth Williams followed the same suit, going 2-0 on his first day as well.

In the opener, Williams scored a 19-1 technical fall over Normandy’s Thomas Keller before notching a 3:02 pin against Evan Goyetche from Maumee.

Williams squares off against Perrysburg’s JP Newton (14-4) in the seminfinals.

Mason Correll went 2-1 for TC. His only loss came from Wauseon’s Austin Yarnell, in a 5-3 manner.

Roman Williams finished 1-1 and is still alive in the consolations.
