Girls Basketball Roundup: St. Wendelin vaults above .500

FOSTORIA – St. Wendelin roared out to a 30-6 halftime lead Thursday en route to beating Midland Athletic League foe Lakota 54-16.

Sami Birkmire’s 12 points paced the Mohawks (6-5, 2-3 MAL) and Colleen Fondessy and Kamryn Troike both netted 10.

Allie Rutter added five steals, Troike grabbed five rebounds and Heather Saalman dished four assists.

The Raiders got seven points from Stephanie Miller and 10 boards from Katie Park.

Redmen continue slide

FOSTORIA – Eastwood dominated just one quarter, but the Eagles made the most of it Thursday to beat winless Fostoria 44-33 in Northern Buckeye Conference play.

Fostoria (0-11, 0-4 NBC) entered the second quarter clinging to a 6-4 lead, but the Eagles raced off to a 23-9 halftime lead and kept FHS at bay from there.

Diana Bushman netted 15 points for Eastwood and Presley Weaver chipped in 10.

The Redmen got 22 points from Jada Hampton, but none of her teammates scored more than six.
