K OF C FREE THROW CONTEST: The Tiffin Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is today at Calvert High for boys and girls age 9-14 as of Jan. 1, 2019. Registration for the free event begins at 12:30 p.m., followed by the contest at 1 p.m.
BOYS JV BASKETBALL: Andrew Kalb scored 21 points to lead Seneca East past Colonel Crawford 41-33. Jake Forehand added nine points for the Tigers.
n Upper Sandusky beat Buckeye Central 59-38.
n Collin Barth scored 10 points to lead Mohawk past Bucyrus 58-39. Tyler Hayman backed him with nine points and Trey Combs had eight.
n Clyde beat Fremont Ross 57-45.
n Jaden Myers tossed in 15 points and Zack Arend added 11 for Columbian in a 51-41 win over New Riegel. Caden Groves pitched in 10 for the winners while Joe Tiell topped New Riegel with 23.
n Carey beat Wynford 54-51 as Hayden Nash tallied 12 points for Carey.
FRESHMAN BOYS BASKETBALL: Fremont Ross held off Clyde 31-27.
BOYS JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL: Adam Magers and Pierson Steyer both scored 11 points and Isaac Snyder added 10 to key Old Fort’s 42-19 eighth grade win against Fremont St. Joe.
n Tiffin’s eighth grade held off Willard 40-36 in the Sandusky Bay Conference quarterfinals. Logan Beaston keyed the winners with 22 points and Zayne Smith and Garritt Prenzlin each added five.
n In the first round of the SBC Tournament, Calvert’s seventh grade beat Sandusky St. Mary’s 39-10. Taleb Al-Zakwani had 14 points, while Lucas Recker added nine and Harry Shultz ended with seven.
n Lakota’s eighth grade downed Calvert 52-31 in the opening round of the SBC Tournament. Lee Morgan poured in 14 points for the Senecas.
GIRLS JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL: Old Fort’s seventh grade beat Sandusky St. Mary 41-12 in the first round of the Sandusky Bay Conference Tournament. Macie Miller had 10 points for the Stockaders, Madi Blankenship scored six and Alexis Ward added five.
n Calvert beat Lakota’s eighth grade 28-21 in the first round of the SBC Tournament. Leah Smith netted 10 points for Calvert and Selah Moyer scored eight. Lakota got 12 points from Carlie Foos.
n Mohawk’s eighth grade defeated Ridgedale 32-11. Bailey Sheets paced the Warriors with 15 points, JoLeigh Hamilton tossed in 10 and Emily Klopp had seven.
n Fostoria’s seventh grade beat Elmwood 37-21 to reach the finals of the Northern Buckeye Conference Tournament. Destiny Robinson, Emma Gregg, Madisyn De La Rosa, and Desinee McBeth-Settles all scored for the Redmen.
n Seneca East opened the seventh grade Northern 10 Athletic Conference Tournament by beating Ridgemont 27-21 in overtime. Caroline Kagy led the victors with 12 points and Leah Drown had seven.
GIRLS JV BASKETBALL: Arcadia topped New Riegel 30-27. Brooklyn Depinet had seven points, while Bria Dailey and Katie Rumschlag each had six for the Blue Jackets. Izzy Mundy led Arcadia with seven points.
