XXXXXXXXXX3 PILLAR CHALLENGE: Olympic-theme wristbands will be provided for finishing the 3 Pillars and a photo with an Olympian and sport bag will be provided at the Festival of Champions Oct. 23. The SPORT pillar can be earned by talking to a Seneca County librarian about summer fitness and athletic activities (YMCA classes, sport camps, open gyms, etc.). The education and culture pillars can also be earned at the library this month. Look for the Elite Sport & Culture Week display at the library and downtown farmers market. JAMBOREE: Upper Sandusky will play Fostoria in a jamboree football game at 6 p.m. Aug. 17 at Upper Sandusky High. A jamboree is a third preseason football contest used as a “dress rehearsal” for the upcoming regular season and a fundraiser. The OHSAA receives the first $500 of the gate receipts, which go directly into the Catastrophic Injury Insurance Fund which insures every junior and senior high athlete for a catastrophic injury. The remaining proceeds go to the Kiwanis Closet Project which provides emergency clothing for elementary schools in Wyandot County. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for students. No passes will be accepted.

GOLF: The New Riegel Athletic Boosters will host the Teresa Kessler Big Cup scramble Sept. 9 at 9 a.m. at Fostoria Country Club. All holes will have 8-inch cups except for par 3s. Entry fee is $200 per four-player team, which includes golf, cart, lunch and skins. To enter, call (419) 934-0227 or (419) 310-0553 until Sept. 8. All profits will go the Teresa Kessler Scholarship Fund.

* Tiffin-Seneca United Way will host its sixth annual outing at Clinton Heights Sept. 8. Registration starts at 7:45 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $200 for a team, $100 for a hole sponsor and $500 for a major sponsor. The outing includes golf, cart, lunch and two drink tickets per person. There will be door prizes, hole contests, skins, mulligans and a 50/50 drawing. Larry and CJ Kisabeth, golf outing chairs, seek major sponsors, hole sponsors, door prize sponsors and teams. * The Friday Senior League at Clinton Heights had a tie at top of the leaderboard, with the team of Dick Best, Dave Seislove, Ron Troxell and Mike Windau tied with the team of Dave Purnell, Ed Lutz, Jim Sherwood and Mike Hampp at eight under.

BASKETBALL: The Senedot Stripes will compete this winter in the ICSO Athletic Conference. Senedot comes from combining Seneca County and Wyandot County. The teams are for sixth through 12th grade boys and girls. Jason DeZurik will serve as athletic director for this new program based in Wyandot County. Board members are Steve Sturgeon, Steve Bare, Duane Coldiron and DeZurik. The gymnasium for home games will be at Angeline School and Industries near Upper Sandusky. John Stewart UMC will also be used for practices. The program plans to field four teams, including girls teams at the junior high and varsity levels and boys at the junior high and varsity levels. FREE YOUTH SOCCER CAMP: Tiffin University men’s soccer will host a free youth camp for first through fifth graders from 7-8:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Paradiso practice fields.

TIFFIN SOCCER CLUB: Tiffin Soccer Club is offering training this fall for children ages 10-14. There will be two divisions: U12 (ages 10-12) and U14 ( ages 12/13-14). The club anticipates two training sessions per week, tentatively scheduled for Mondays (or Tuesdays) and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30/7 p.m., beginning in mid-August and ending in late October. The sessions will be at Hidden Valley Soccer Complex and Hedges-Boyer Park. In addition to training sessions, the club will attempt to schedule games against teams in the East Suburban Soccer League including Woodville, Port Clinton, Oak Harbor, Rastwood, Lake and others. Cost is $75 per player, and registration is available online at www.tiffinsoccer.prg until Thursday.
