SECTIONAL SWIMMING: Both the boys and girls swim teams for Calvert are sending an individual and a relay team to the Division II district meet. Christian Staib is the lone boy qualifier and is to participate in two individual events and in the relay. Staib is seeded 30th in the 100 free and 16th in the 100 breast. He is also to anchor the 22nd-seeded 400 free relay with David Stosio, Sam Siebert and Sam Krout. Taylor Harris will represent the girls in the fifth seed for the 100, while holding the ninth seed in the 100 breast. She is also on the 23rd-seeded 400 free relay team along with Alana Kennedy, Erin Wagner and Meghan Miller.
COACH SOUGHT: New Riegel is accepting applications for a new varsity head volleyball coach. Interested applicants can send a resume and a letter of interest to Athletic Director Jamie Lininger at firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications will be accepted until March 2.
BOYS JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL: After ending regulation deadlocked at 40, New Riegel’s eighth grade boys were able to hold Carey scoreless in overtime to take a 45-40 win. Joe Tiell led the Blue Jackets with 12 points, while Brandon Gillig added 11 and Grant Reinhart tossed in eight.
GIRLS JV BASKETBALL: Hopewell-Loudon topped Calvert 53-29. Morgan Searles led H-L with 15 points, while Ashlyn Jones, Maddie Schumacher and Hannah Smith all had six for Calvert.
