PING PONG: The second annual Carmie’s Ping Pong League sign up is Jan. 17. The league runs Jan. 24 to March 14. There will be a max of 36 players and all players from 2017 will have first rights to decline joining this year. You can sign up to be a sub if you can’t commit to the entire eight weeks. League fee is $30. There is also doubles play as well. It is an open play format, which means you’re welcome to show up for doubles even if you aren’t in the league. Drawing for teams is at 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday night.

K OF C FREE THROW CONTEST: Boys and girls age 9-14 as of Jan. 1, 2018, can participate in the 2018 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship on Jan. 21 at Calvert High. Registration is at 12:30 p.m., followed by the competition at 1 p.m. Winners in each age group advance to the district competition in February.

BOYS JV BASKETBALL: Hopewell-Loudon beat Vanlue 34-25. Ethan Oswalt led the Chieftains with 10 points, Marshall Reinhard added nine and Carter Ritchey had eight.

GIRLS JV BASKETBALL: Laini Gillett tossed in 16 points and Aly Pence added 13 to lead Old Fort past Calvert 39-27. Maddy Schumacher had 10 for the Senecas.

n Bellevue topped Clyde 48-40.

n Lauren Perry had 13 points, leading Shelby to a 32-26 win over Columbian. Toria Ingalls had eight points for TC.
