GOLF: Nature Trails Golf Course will host the Blake Depinet four-man scramble fundraiser Aug. 20. The scramble will have a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $50 per person which covers the 18 holes, two carts per team, a steak meal and prizes. n The Rodger W. Young VFW Post 6067 17th annual Memorial Golf Outing is Aug. 12 at Clinton Heights with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Cost is $40 per person for the two-person scramble. n Mohawk’s basketball and volleyball teams will host a four-person scramble Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at Clinton Heights. Registration starts at 8:15 a.m. Proceeds go to support the boys basketball and girls volleyball programs. Cost is $200 per team and includes 18 holes plus a cart, lunch at the turn, a starter gift for each player and a chicken dinner provided by Bone Boys’ Barbecue following the outing. There will also be a mulligan package, hole prizes, a putting contest, prizes for first place, last place and middle of the pack. n Seneca Hills will host the Arthur Graham Parent-Child Open sponsored by Slate Real Estate July 23 at 4 p.m. It will be a nine-hole scramble with three flights for 12 and under, 13-17 and 18 and up. Any combination of children, parents or grandparents are eligible. The entry fee is $50, which includes nine holes with a cart, prizes, trophies, drink ticket and a barbecue dinner afterward catered by Carmines. n The Friday Senior League at Clinton Heights was won by the team of Dave Purnell, Steve Scheiber, Ron Jones and John Powell at 4 under. In second at 3 under was Skip Halcomb, Fred Smith, Jon Aiken and Ed Lutz. Prize holes went to Don Hammer (closest in one No. 11), Smith (closest in two No. 13), Bob Shultz (closest in three No. 17) and Carl Rainey (long putt No. 18).

n Adam Smith and Mark Miller lead the final third of the Wednesday night Men’s Catholic League at Seneca Hills with 29 points after the first week. Smith had the low gross with a 33, while Jack Felton shot a 30 for the low net.

BASEBALL: The Big Sticks Baseball League, in conjunction with the Beeghly Park in Bloomville, will host the inaugural Big Sticks Fall Baseball League. The BSBC is open to incoming seventh and eighth graders for the 2017-18 school year. Cost is $700 per team with an eight-team cap. There will be two games per week played on Wednesdays and Sundays for a total of 12 games. Games begin Sept. 6. Games will be played by OHSAA rules and metal cleats can be worn by non-pitchers only. n Northern Ohio Storm 12U and 13U tournament baseball teams will have a tryout today from 2-4 p.m. at Hedges-Boyer Park on the Tiffin D-League field on top of the hill for the 2018 season. For the 12U team, players cannot turn 13 before May 1, 2018 and or the 13U team players cannot turn 14 before May 1, 2018. The 13U team will also be competing in the NWOABL travel league. 5K RUN/WALK: The Republic “Party in the Park” 5K run/walk, presented by Republic Sons of the American Legion Squadron #404, is Aug. 5 at 4 p.m. All proceeds benefit Republic Community Park improvements. Pre-registration fee is $15 by July 21. Race day registration is $20. With a pre-registration a “soft style” race shirt is available. The start and finish is at the Republic Ball Park/SR 162. Race day registration is 3 p.m. until 15 minutes before the start of the race. There are a plethora of awards and for age groups.
