A Tiffin business owner was arrested Tuesday after it was discovered he allegedly was purchasing stolen property.
According to a release from the Tiffin Police Department, Julian Garcia, 34, of Fremont, owner of Technical Fashionz, 76 E. Market St., was arrested and charged with attempted receiving stolen property and attempted obstructing official business, both misdemeanor charges, after a monthlong investigation.
Police executed a search warrant for the recovery of stolen property at the store Tuesday afternoon, and at the time, served arrest warrants on Garcia, Detective Lt. Mark Marquis of the Tiffin Police Department said.
According to the release, Marquis had received admissions from defendants in previous criminal investigations that they had sold stolen property to Garcia at Technical Fashionz. Those admissions indicated the store had become a source of income for drug addicts looking to make quick money, the release stated.
Marquis said the investigation involved selling Garcia property that belonged to or was under the control of the police department.
"It was sold to him in such a way that it was his belief he was purchasing stolen property," he said.
Marquis said that during the execution of search warrant, laptops, cell phones and sales records were seized.
Marquis said Technical Fashionz is a second-hand store that specializes in electronic items such as laptops, computers and TVs. It offers electronic repairs, he said. Marquis said the store has been operating in Tiffin for two years.
Marquis said he believes the store likely now will be operated by other employees.
"Hopefully this sends a message to all second-hand dealers that this type of activity will not be tolerated," Marquis said in the release.
According to the release, Garcia appeared in Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court Tuesday where his bond was set at $30,000. He is scheduled to appear Aug. 27 for an arraignment.
The release states police officers from the Fostoria Police Department and Agents of the Ohio Department of Taxation assisted Tuesday in execution of the search warrant.
