Ronald J. Hoover

Ronald J. Hoover, 71, of Bascom, passed away Saturday afternoon, Aug. 9, 2014.

On July 17, 1943, in Tiffin, he was born to Francis "Frank" and Estella (Kimmet) Hoover. He married Patricia M. Blair May 7, 1966, in St. Mary Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years; two sons, Ken Hoover and Jim (Jen) Hoover, both of Carey; six grandchildren, Paige, Zack, Tyler, Autumn, Brandan and Sage; one great-grandson, Thaddeus Alexander, arriving in September; and a sister, Rosemary Magers of Tiffin.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Kenneth, Donald, Charles, Richard and Sid Hoover; and a sister, Norma Jean Haefer.

Ron served his country and joined the U.S. Army in February 1962, stationed in Germany, and worked as a radio technician on Nike guided missiles. He was honorably discharged in February 1965. He worked for Ford Autolite, Allied Signal, and, in 1996, retired from Honeywell in Fostoria after 30 years. Ron enjoyed working on electronics, playing his guitar, and especially loved his grandchildren. Ron was a very kind and gentle man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

His funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, (419) 447-2424 with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow, with military honors by the United Veterans Council, at Seneca Memory Gardens.

Friends may visit and share stories with the family 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bascom Joint Fire District or to a charity of the donor's choice.
