ATTICA - Village Police Chief Keith Turner informed village council members Thursday night the department is sponsoring Safety City 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Knights of Columbus facility.
It is being organized by Capt. Joe Leroux, and the AVR EMS squad is to participate to inform the public about the EMS program, recruit new members and answer questions about an upcoming levy to provide a stipend for squad members.
Plans also call for Life Flight to land around 11:30 a.m.
Aug. 2 is also closing day for Myers Park swimming pool. The council decided to make it a free swim day for the community. The pool is to be open 1-7 p.m., and all candy is to be sold at a reduced rate.
Turner reported the village continues to have thefts committed. He noted the department has charged three individuals, while police in Willard have charged a fourth suspect. He reminded residents to lock doors and windows on their homes and cars. For residents who plan to be away for an extended time, house-check forms are available online at atticaohio.us to make arrangements for the police to periodically survey their property.
Billing clerk Emily Bates tendered her resignation and council members accepted it with regret. They thanked her for her dedication and hard work. Advertising for the position is to be done soon.
Village Administrator Greg Martin stated 80 feet of 10-inch tile was replaced near the intersection of North Liberty and Atlantic streets. The tile was plugged by willow tree roots.
Martin also said an archaeological study at the new lagoon site will resume after a crop of soybeans is harvested.
Council's EMS representative, Nate Frisch, reported a 1.5-mill levy is to be placed on the Nov. 4 ballot, and a meeting has been set with Seneca County Auditor Julie Adkins for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the firehouse.
