Floyd J. Meeker Jr.

Floyd J. Meeker Jr., 81, of Bascom, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, July 20, 2014, at his home.

Aug. 8, 1932, in Bloomdale, he was born to Floyd J. and Beatrice (Davis) Meeker Sr. He met the love of his life, Madelyn F. Reindl, at the ballroom at Meadowbrook Park, and within a year, they were married in the rectory at St. Patrick Catholic Church Aug. 2, 1958.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years; a son, Tim Meeker of Tiffin; four daughters, Cindy (Claire Roehm) Meeker of Austin, Texas, Annette (Glenn) Hess of rural Fostoria, Lori (Tom) Scheele of Republic and Denise Meeker of Tiffin; five grandchildren, Derek, Kurt and Grant Hess, and Sam and Lacy Scheele; five great-grandchildren, Atley and Georgia Hess, Lexi and Jace Hess, and Madison Scheele.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Willard "Gene" Meeker, William "Bill" Meeker; and sisters Marian Slick and Ada Mae Cole.

Floyd was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a 1952 graduate of Portage High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956 as a Navy SEAL, Team Six. After being honorably discharged, he worked for General Electric in Tiffin for 30 years, 26 of those years as a foreman; he retired when the plant closed. Floyd enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and mowing his lawn. He was a talented woodworker, making many pieces of furniture for family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and was proud of his family.

A private graveside service will be at Seneca Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Council.
