Calvert graduate honored

Angela Belcher, principal of Crestwood Elementary, Swanton School District, Swanton, accepted the 2014 Hall of Fame School award June 17 at the OAESA 2014 Professional Conference Awards dinner at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky.

The award is one of six awarded to elementary or middle schools in the state. The award was presented by OAESA President Kevin Gehres and Executive Director Pam Allvn.

Belcher graduated from Calvert High School in 1991, received her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University, her master's degree from Toledo University and her superintendent's license from Findlay University.

The award was accompanied with these comments from the OAESA Hall of Fame Committee: "'Learn, live and love' are the lessons being taught every day at Crestwood Elementary, led by an energetic, young principal in Angela Belcher. For these pre-K through second-graders, school is their 'safe place,' offering them the opportunity to make friends, have fun and most importantly receive an excellent education taught by dedicated staff that includes both beginning and veteran teachers. At Crestwood, the common goal is to educate these little ones to embrace life through learning...and loving. And the students have adult examples everywhere at Crestwood to demonstrate exactly what that looks like."

In attendance were Erik Belcher, Angela's husband; Ed and Rita Schwab, her father and mother; Crestwood second grade teachers Tiffany Hood and Izzy Smith; first grade teacher Brooks Brown; and guidance counselor Rob Gilson.

Committee to meet

Tiffin City Board of Education's support services committee is to meet at 8 a.m. Friday at the administration building.
