Eugene L. Sherwood, 76, a resident of Willard, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
He was born Sept. 7, 1937, in Denton, Texas, to Buford and Elsie (Hanks) Sherwood. Eugene retired after 20 years from the U.S. Air Force, then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service and retired from there after 22 years.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the patriarch of his family, and they always came first. He enjoyed playing cards every Friday night with his dear friends, Carol and Red Eastman.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Marie (Cannaday) Sherwood, whom he married Dec. 20, 1962; two sons, Eugene Scott (Colette) Sherwood of Iowa and Steven Lindy Sherwood of Ontario; four grandchildren, Brenton, Megan, Jillian and Wills; one great-grandson, Brett; one sister, Sheila Kay (Dr. Alan) Nichols of Columbus; and cousin, Newton Hightower of Houston, Texas.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
There will be a private service, and burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven, at a later date.
