A summer tradition in Tiffin is to get underway again this weekend with the St. Joseph Festival at 36 Melmore St.
The General Store is to open its doors at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Activity Center gym. A variety of garage sale items donated by parishioners are to be offered for sale.
The main festival is to be open 3-11 p.m. Saturday with games, rides, raffles and festival foods, including funnel cakes, homemade chicken noodle soup, bratwurst and homemade pies and cakes.
Two athletic events are to kick off the festivities. The St. Joseph Festival 5K run/walk is set for 2 p.m. Registration packets can be picked up starting at 12:30 p.m. Forms are available in the bulletin stands at church or by calling Carrie at (419) 618-7639.
The three-on-three basketball tournament for grades 3-8 starts at 3 p.m. Saturday in front of Calvert Catholic Elementary School. Forms can be picked up in church or by calling the rectory at (419) 447-5848.
A magician is scheduled 3-4 p.m. on the entertainment stage, followed by blues and rock by Beautiful Losers 4:30-6:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., stop in the air-conditioned school cafeteria for an Italian dinner. The cost is $6.50.
Those age 21 and older can buy into the Texas Hold 'em tournament at 7 p.m. in the Upper Room. The buy-in is $40. DJ Christian Miller is to entertain 7-10 p.m.
On the grounds, ride a pony, get a face painting or take the Spartan Express train ride. Inflatable attractions include an obstacle course, large slide, castle bounce, bungee/joust combo and the velcro tower. Bingo will be in the old gymnasium.
Sunday's festival hours are noon-10 p.m., but the General Store opens at 10 a.m. Chicken dinner is to be served for dine in or drive-through carry out at 11 a.m. The entertainment stage is to feature the New Riegel Jacket Co. at 12:30 p.m., recorded music until 2:30 p.m., Dave and Glen 4-6:30 p.m. and The Late Show 7-10 p.m.
A grand prize of $10,000 is to be given away, along with other merchandise. Decker's and Ewald's Furniture each have provided $1,000 gift certificates and Phillips Electric has donated a Maytag high-efficiency washing machine.
