Karl's Hauling permanently closed its recycling center Monday.
Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz said the city received no notice of the move, although a contract between Tiffin and Karl's states the parties would have to give notice before contract terms could be changed. He said the contract was entered into about a year ago and has not expired.
Montz said no notice was given when Karl's Hauling first reduced the recycling center's hours in November.
He said all trash and recycling from the city is going to a landfill.
"It's disheartening," Montz said. "The whole thing is disappointing."
Attempts to contact representatives from Karl's Hauling were unsuccessful.
Montz said he hopes Tiffin City Council will move forward on a recycling program for the city.
"We need to do the right thing for our residents," he said.
Montz said Tiffin residents should not use Clinton Township's recycling containers. He suggested taking recycling to Hancock County's Litter Landing recycling facility, 1720 E. Sandusky St., Findlay.
The facility is open 24/7. Assistance is available 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
