OLD FORT - As officials await Ohio Gov. John Kasich to sign a bill that would alleviate the debt of a local school district, Old Fort and Bettsville boards of education came together for a meeting Monday.
During Old Fort's regular board meeting, Old Fort and Bettsville Treasurer Jaime Pearson said Ohio House Bill 487 passed through the Ohio Senate, House of Representatives and Conference Committee and is awaiting on the signature from the governor. The bill includes an amendment to forgive Bettsville's debt following a proposal to transfer Bettsville's property to the Old Fort Local School District.
The Old Fort Board entered into executive session that resulted in the approval of a shared services agreement between Bettsville and Old Fort for the provision of superintendent services beginning May 26 through July 31.
Bettsville passed a similar resolution during its May regular meeting.
In the treasurer's report, Pearson presented temporary appropriations for fiscal year 2015 and final appropriations and amended certificate for fiscal year 2014.
Pearson said there is to be a possible $87,505 additional balance gained in the general fund for fiscal year 2014.
The board approved recommended legal services from Briker & Eckler LLP for 2014-15. Superintendent Steve Anway presented the possibility of the services during his report. He said the services are to be used to help advise during the proposed property transfer.
Anway also presented the results of the Ohio Graduation Tests. He said 21 of 23 students passed all five sections of the test.
Anway also said the districts have began the move between buildings. He said they moved the high school and elementary libraries last week.
In addition, Anway said one of the positives associated with the transfer is that each classroom is to have a SMART Board available.
