Lewis J. Fanning, 85, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday morning, June 1, 2014, at Wild Wings Campground, Oak Harbor.
He was born Sept. 18, 1928, in Brattleboro, Vermont, to Stanley and Georgiana (Groesbeck) Fanning. He married Barbara T. Torrey July 15, 1951, in Brattleboro, Vermont, and she preceded him in death in 2001.
Survivors include his twin sons, Barrett L. (Lois) Fanning of St. Joseph, Michigan, and Brett M. Fanning of Tiffin; brother, David Fanning of St. Petersburg, Florida; sister, Gail Belville of St. Petersburg, Florida; three grandchildren, Gabriel, Craig and Tyler; six great-grandchildren, Michael, Ashton, Chloe, Natalie, Bailey and Allison; and one great-grandchild on the way.
He also was preceded in death by his parents.
Lewis graduated from Brattleboro High School in Vermont and worked as a conductor and brakeman for Norfolk & Western Railroad. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged.
Lewis was a member of the Tiffin Lions Club and enjoyed fishing with his friends, Dean Distel and Jack Houck.
His funeral will begin at noon Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424, with Pastor Rex King officiating. There will be no burial at this time.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until the time of his funeral Saturday.
