ADRIAN, Michigan - The Tiffin Saints - and the Independent Baseball League - made their debut Thursday night.
For the Saints, it was a good opening act.
Tyler Surbock hit a three-run double, Andrew Azzopardi drove in three runs, and the Saints knocked off the Adrian Pioneers, 11-6.
Tiffin reliever Ryan Neely picked up the win, and the Saints got superb efforts from a pair of other relievers. Dylan Pazura and Zac Bogjer combined to throw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball.
"The players played very well," said the Saints' Ryan Parent, who collected his first win as a pro manager. "There was clutch hitting, clutch pitching and the players played well together."
Ben Tootle, a former Minnesota Twins draft pick, started the game on the mound for Tiffin, lasting three innings. The Pioneers were held hitless threw the first two innings before getting to Tootle.
In the night's other IBL contest, the Ohio Travelers outlasted Marion 3-2 in 16 innings.
