Raymond W. Platt

Raymond W. Platt, 89, of Fostoria, passed away Thursday morning, May 8, 2014, at his home.

He was born July 12, 1924, in Tiffin, to Robert and Evelyn (Shelt) Platt. He married Elizabeth J. Druckenmiller Jan. 28, 1966, and she preceded him in death.

Survivors include his two sons, Randy Platt and Dennis M. Burkett of Fostoria; three daughters, Pam Hemmerly, Gail (Ray) Beckelkaupt and Martina Burkett of Tiffin; a brother, Paul Platt of Tiffin; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Harold Platt; and two sisters, Eva Jean (Arden) Rodger and Dorothy (John) Caudill.

Raymond graduated from high school in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942-1945. He was a caretaker at Meadowbrook Park, retired in 1985, after 31 years as a kiln fireman at American Standard, was a member of Bascom United Methodist Church and VFW Tiffin Post No. 2858.

There will be no visitation.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Sandridge Cemetery, Bascom, with Pat Danner officiating. The United Veterans Council will conduct military honors. There will be a luncheon to follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.
