BELLEVUE - The musical "Oliver!" is coming to Bellevue Society for the Arts for performances Friday through Sunday and again May 16-17. The Sunday program is at 2:30 p.m., while the others are at 7:30 p.m. at BSA, 205 Maple St., Bellevue.
Based on the Charles Dickens novel, "Oliver Twist," the British production has music, lyrics and book by Lionel Bart. Favorite songs from the show are "Food, Glorious Food," "Consider Yourself" and "Where is Love?"
The stage version tells the tale of an orphan boy who dares to ask for more food at the workhouse where he and his fellow orphans are mistreated. Oliver is thrown out of the workhouse and onto the street, where he encounters The Artful Dodger. The young pickpocket introduces Oliver to the seedy underside of London, where he also becomes a pickpocket, controlled by Fagin.
