Leona M. Murray

Leona M. Murray, 92, of Old Fort, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Memorial Hospital, Fremont.

She was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Fremont, the daughter of Leroy and Amelia (Voss) Collier. She was a graduate of Fremont Ross High School.

Leona married Carl A. Murray Nov. 4, 1945, at Old Fort United Methodist Church, and he survives. She was a homemaker and owned Murray Farms along with her husband. She also worked as a clerk and bookkeeper at Art Smith Economy Plumbers and wrote Old Fort local news articles for The News Messenger.

Leona was a member of Old Fort United Methodist Church, Seneca County Farm Bureau, New Idea Farm Women's Club and WIN One Sunday school class. She enjoyed pinochle, gardening, cooking, baking and entertaining. She also enjoyed spending winters in Bradenton, Fla., for 30 years, with her husband.

Leona is survived by her husband of 68 years, Carl A. Murray of Old Fort; three children, Norman (Nola) Murray of Green Springs, Sharon (Thomas) Dugan of Alva, Fla., and William "Bill" (Patti) Murray of Fremont; nine grandchildren, Melanie Speed and Rachel Chandler-Green, both of Las Vegas, Nev., Adam Murray of Worthington, Emily Leonard of Chicago, Ill., Bessie Dugan and Susan Dugan, both of Fort Myers, Fla., Charlotte Steinard of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Aaron Murray of Findlay and Cory Murray of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Walter Collier; and sister, Ruby Wilson.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 211 N. Broadway St., Green Springs.

Her funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Old Fort United Methodist Church, 1070 E. Pleasant St., Old Fort, with one hour of visitation 9-10 a.m. prior to her funeral. Pastor Marc Quinter and Norman Murray will officiate.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort.

Memorial contributions may be made to Old Fort United Methodist Church Building Fund.
