We support the renewal of the emergency operating levy for TCS and encourage everyone to vote in favor Tuesday.
There are many practical reasons why this levy must pass; it represents no new tax to the taxpayers of Tiffin; it is critical to the operations of TCS, making up 7.2 percent of the total budget; TCS has proven to be good stewards of our tax dollars by achieving the highest standards at one of the lowest cost-per-pupil levels compared to surrounding school districts; and we cannot depend on state funding to continue to cover our educational expenses. These are the practical and logical reasons why we should all vote for the renewal Tuesday.
If you are still not sure how you feel about the levy, consider the investment you would make to provide your children with the opportunity for a better future. We must continue to invest in the educational quality of our schools in order to give our students a chance to succeed. The future of our town and country lies with these children, and we can't give them less than our best. If the good of the children doesn't motivate you to vote for the renewal Tuesday, then think of it from a selfish point of view.
A strong public school with adequate funding and dedicated teachers and staff are critical to the economic future of Tiffin. The mayor talks about a budget surplus and how tax revenues are up and that our city services will be increased and our roads repaved due to the improved employment in our town. Why do employers locate here? There are many reasons, but the quality of TCS cannot be discounted and I believe it is one of the most important. An owner of a $100,000 home will continue (this is a renewal) to pay $143.52 per year due to the levy - smart investment in the value of our homes and the success of our community.
Please vote in favor of the emergency operating levy Tuesday for the logical, for the practical, for the right reason. Thank you.
Mike and Karen Klepper, Tiffin
