Earl W. Adkins, 72, of Sycamore, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.
Earl was born Jan. 22, 1942, in Wise County, Va., to the late Arcie A. and Mary E. (Rose) Adkins. He married Carol A. (Hook) Adkins Oct. 29, 1965, in Tiffin, and she preceded him in death March 31, 2008.
Survivors include four children, Angela (Earl) Forwalder of Tiffin, Mitchell (Diana) Adkins of Sycamore, Patrick (Amanda) Adkins of Tiffin and an adopted daughter, Shelley Hardy of Sycamore; eight grandchildren, Larry, Dalton, and Nolan Nance and Arcie, Rhiver, Xander, Benten and Alexander Adkins; a brother, Tommy Adkins of McCutchenville; a sister, Mattie Jean Eborge of Fremont; two sisters-in-law, Diane Reid and Barbara Adkins, both of Tiffin; and a beloved friend, Gary Shellhouse.
Earl worked for Colliers Construction company for many years and later retired from Danner's Auto Wrecking company. He also worked as a coal miner and was an amazing mechanic. He had a passion for working on cars at Shellhouse Repair. During his free time, he loved to go hunting and fishing and attend family cookouts. Earl was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Mahzi Adkins; four brothers, Willie, Charlie, Chester and Emmitt Adkins; two sisters, Nadine Hill and Vercie Fredericks; two sisters-in-law, Mae and Jaynell Adkins; and three brothers-in-law, Claude Hill, Robert Fredericks, and Gloyd Eborge.
There will be no services at this time. Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, is assisting the family with their arrangements.
