COLUMBUS - The Tiffin University men and women's track team made additions to the school record book during the Jesse Owens Classic.
For the women, the 4x100 relay team of Jasmine Kelley, Theresa Scott, Taylor Deskins and Brittany Darby ran an NCAA provisional time of 46.92, breaking a school record of 47.01 set in 2013.
Morgan Horn broke her own record in the pole vault by clearing 11-1 3/4.
Tony Marshall led the Dragon men with a second place in the 100 (10.67) while Wilner Marcelin finished third in 110 hurdles (14.24). Fifths came from Antonio Combs in the triple jump (46-8) and Ishan Garrett in the 200 (21.33).
Dragons flex muscles at BW invitational
BEREA- The Tiffin University men's and women's track team won six events at the Baldwin Wallace Invitational.
Miranda Mendozzi brought home a victory in the hammer throw with a provisional toss of 177 feet. Additional victories came from Robin Banks in the 400 (1:00.85), Sarah Clow in the shot put (46-7 1/2) and Jessica Kern in the 1,500 (4:55.34).
For the men, Mike Gruden won the 1,500 (4:02.81) and Collin Tyzinski added another first in the 400 hurdles (57.69). Seconds came from Terry Evans in the 400 hurdles (58.39), Kevin McKown in the 5,000 (15:29.78), Zane Lawrence in the shot put (51-6 1/4) and Travis Steinback in the 200 (22.31).
Brown homers in TU?split
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Tiffin University's Cassandra Brown blasted a three-run homer in the opener at Ferris State en route to a 7-2 victory. The Dragons then dropped the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athleic Conference nightcap 3-2.
Brown added two singles in the victory, and Madison Yanek and Tamara Link also recorded home runs in the win.
Taylor Spang picked up the win, pitching seven innings and allowing just five hits, one earned and fanning seven.
In Game 2, the Dragons (21-16, 8-10 GLIAC) had a 2-0 advantage going into the top of the sixth inning, but the Bulldogs gave TU a little taste of its own medicine with a three-run dinger to take the lead and close out the scoring.
Yanek took the loss, pitching five innings, allowing four hits with one earned run.
